Described by Pitchfork as “a lightning rod at the juncture where the ambition of classical music meets the aesthetics of indie music,” this influential label was founded in 2006 by producer Valgeir Sigurðsson with Rhode Island-raised composer Nico Muhly and Australian composer and producer Ben Frost. In celebration of their 10th anniversary, the three founders join fellow Community artists Sam Amidon, Nadia Sirota, Borgar Magnason, Una Sveinbjarnardóttir and Helgi Jónsson for their third WHALE WATCHING TOUR. On stage, the music of these friends and colleagues flows in a musical conversation between Nico’s restless modern compositions, Valgeir’s surgical electro-acoustics, Ben’s haunting noise-scapes and Sam’s apocalyptic folk songs — fueled by joyful energy and appreciation for each other but also tension, blood and sweat that makes it all the more rewarding.
