Future funk with a world beat

June 4, 2016, 8:00-9:15 PM*
Festival Rink Stage / Alex and Ani City Center

Bhangra funk is the explosive, multicultural dance music of the next generation and Red Baraat are its undisputed kings.

This nine-piece “dhol n’ brass” outfit has been hailed as “the best party band in years” by NPR and “a big band for the world” by The Wall Street Journal. Led by a trio of master rhythm makers, Red Baraat mixes the infectious, pulsing rhythms of North Indian bhangra music with modern Western sounds ranging from jazz to Latin to funk—creating globe-spanning, multicultural dance grooves that are as intoxicating as they are eclectic. After topping the Billboard World Music charts, they traveled the world for three years on a nonstop tour that included appearances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and the Monterey Jazz Festival. The band is on a mission to unify people of all cultures in joy and dance with exuberant, electrifying performances full of pounding rhythms and bombastic horn fanfares.
