Downtown Providence – 10 Dorrance Street
“They dance in the air, using thrill and wonder and metaphor to amplify feeling”
While artists and musicians transform Kennedy Plaza into a world-class festival, vertical dance pioneers BANDALOOP transformed the façade of an everyday downtown building into their extraordinary dance floor with the powerful site-responsive performance #PVDPublicCanvas. Conceived and choreographed by artistic director Amelia Rudolph in collaboration with the dancers, the piece brings the ideas and stories of Providence residents into the perspective-bending work through the spoken word and song of local performers. The show featured a score by Ben Juodvalkis, spoken word by Providence’s Christopher Johnson, Lady G and Muffin and the Bay Area’s Tassiana Willis of Youth Speaks.

BANDALOOP astonished crowds at FirstWorks Festival on the Plaza in 2012 and they returned to PVDFest 2017 with a new work that draws inspiration from the incredible creative tapestry of Providence. BANDALOOP’s awe-inspiring dance has soared across the skyline in locations ranging from the Kennedy Center to the Sierra Nevada mountains to office towers in more than two dozen major cities across the globe.
