The Avenue Concept will turn
Providence International Arts Festival
June 11-14, 2015 – Washington Street Corridor
Working as a Creative Partner in the Providence International Arts Festival, the Avenue Concept is bringing art directly to the people with large-scale works and installations throughout Downtown and Kennedy Plaza.
The exhibition along the Washington Street Corridor will feature new installations by over a dozen local artists created specifically for the festival. Artist Kate Schapira imagines possibilities for local climate adaptation and mutual aid at her “Climate Anxiety Counseling Booth.” Headmaster, a local queer art magazine, presents its “AV Club,” with non-narrative film and video projects from a variety of artists. Alicia Uth creates “Las Criaturas,” using spraypaint on wood to imagine fun, animal-like creatures, and also provides a blank canvas for the public to draw their own. Ashley Schwebel uses street signs to encourage people to have a nice day with her “Smile Signs.” Explore all this and much more as Washington Street comes alive with public art.
