Wise Fool Stage at Alex and Ani City Center Rink
This performance troupe from New Mexico is part of a national circus arts revival movement that uses performance, puppetry and acrobatics to educate and offer commentary as they also dazzle and amaze.
Wise Fool’s Flexion features five aerial acrobats on stilts performing mind-bending feats of body bending, shaping and spinning high above the crowds. The airborne acrobats fly and contort around a large metal cage, striking sculptural poses and using their pincer-like, metal legs to slice the air like scissors leaving audiences gasping as they barely miss each other and expand the very limits of what you thought was physically possible. Beginning the show like superhuman warriors, Wise Fool’s acrobats slowly shed their layers of armor, transforming into delicate nymphs who balance precariously between land and sky, danger and safety. Known for its unique combinations of circus acts and storytelling, Wise Fool incorporates messages about social issues like water rights and censorship into compellingly acrobatic spectacles.
