“One of the most searching and singular imaginations of our time!” —The New York Times
Dance master Paul Taylor is arguably the greatest living choreographer across the 20th and 21st centuries. At an age when most artists’ greatest work is long behind them, he continues to create works that are vibrant, powerful, and thoroughly new. Fifty years after his first appearance in Providence, Taylor returns with his namesake company for an ambitious FirstWorks Artistic Icons concert featuring their first-ever Rhode Island performance of Esplanade—his exuberant masterpiece set to Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. This extraordinary evening includes the thrilling world premiere of a brand new work to be completed during Taylor’s residency. An “architect of energy” by turns humorous and romantic, his compelling voice creates sheer beauty while illuminating thorny issues. Join us for one of the most significant cultural events of the season!
