Redemption songs + project launch!

June 4, 2016, 7-7:45 PM*
Festival Rink Stage / Alex and Ani City Center

Daniel Bernard Roumain, also known simply as DBR, is a Harlem composer on a unique musical journey.
His innovative musical collaborations span the worlds of modernist composer Philip Glass, choreographer Bill T. Jones, Broadway star Savion Glover, and pop icon Lady Gaga, leading the New York Times to describe him as “about as omnivorous as a contemporary artist gets.” DBR combines his signature violin sounds with electronica and urban influences to create something entirely his own. He returns to Providence (he previously appeared at FirstWorks Festival 2007) to perform Redemption Songs & Sonatas, a program rooted in worldwide civil rights movements, with piano accompaniment by Yayoi Ikawa. He will also work with FirstWorks Arts Learning students on an improvisational Event Piece. DBR’s residency in Providence will lay the groundwork for another collaboration at PVDFest 2017, En Masse, with local high school marching bands.
