Newpoli carries on a tradition so old that it’s hard to date, performing music from the south of Italy that soaks up the diverse influences of surrounding regions.
Newpoli’s music is the pulse of the Mediterranean, a heartbeat driven by the relentless rhythms of the tamburello. With eight musicians playing more than a dozen handcrafted indigenous instruments, Newpoli mixes exciting originals and unique arrangements of traditional songs. The two singers dance wildly, frenetically, infusing every note with the drama and passion in their blood. Their most recent album, Nun te vutà, features six originals and six traditional songs, all using classic Italian folk sounds to address contemporary issues. The tempo is high, the rhythms are propulsive, and the crowd cannot stand still.
