Rhode Island’s very own master of rhythm

June 9, 2018, 8:30 PM
120 Matthewson Street, Downtown Providence*

In the hands of master drummer Sidy Maiga the djembe does not just beat—it sings, shouts, whispers, laughs, cries, and electrifies.

Originally from Mali, this Rhode Island-based musician has traveled the world drumming and teaching. He combines the best of West African percussion traditions with the modern rhythms of the Caribbean and hip-hop. Sidy’s band, Afrimanding features musicians and dancers from Africa and the African diaspora, including Cuba, Mali, Senegal, Saint Croix, and beyond. Wear your dancing shoes to witness one of Rhode Island’s musical treasures.
